Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, the Honourable Phillip Watts, conducted several site visits on Wednesday May 21, 2025, to assess the status of refurbishment works at four (4) youth facilities in east Trinidad.
The visits began at the Military-Led Academic Training facility (MiLAT) in Mausica, where Minister Watts examined the vehicle maintenance section, the kitchen and food storage areas, the cadet’s dining hall, and the three (3) refurbished dormitories. The Minister also visited the Cosmetology and Barbering Salon and Classrooms along with the North Central Regional Headquarters of the CCC Programme, which are also located on the MiLAT compound.
The Honourable Minister, accompanied by his Advisers, Permanent Secretary Narine Charran, and a team from the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs (MSYA), then visited the Youth Entrepreneurship Hubs at the La Horquetta Village Plaza and chatted with representatives from the Rural Development Company on the status of the La Horquetta Youth Development Centre, which he was told is still in its sprouting stage.
Minister Watts continued on at the El Dorado Youth Development and Apprenticeship Centre, where he examined the dormitories that are designed to accommodate approximately 250 female trainees. The Minister toured the five (5) refurbished structures and the two (2) newly constructed ones on the compound; and engaged the Contractor (who was on site), with the aim to receiving the buildings in phases, as they are completed.
The Honourable Minister concluded the visits at the Malick Youth Facility, where he was given a guided tour of the training rooms and workshops by the Facility Manager and the project manager from MTS, who gave a verbal report on the outstanding works.
