HOIST FAQ

1) What is HOIST
HOIST is a programme designed to provide young persons from the ages 21-35 years, with technical/vocational skills-training in Crane Operations; thus equipping them with the requisite skills and competencies to obtain gainful employment in the Oil and Gas, Maritime, Construction, Manufacturing, Ports, Retail and Shipping sectors.

2) Who can apply to the HOIST programme?
Trinidad and Tobago nationals from the ages 21 to 35 years

3) What are the requirements for the programme?
The requirements for the programme are as follows:
• Persons must be from 21 and 35 years
• Persons must be citizens of Trinidad and Tobago
• Persons must provide a certificate of character
• Persons must provide a letter of recommendation
• Persons must possess a minimum of (2) CXC/CSEC Passes

4) How much does the programme cost?
There is no cost to applicants.

5) What are the benefits to HOIST?
Upon successful completion, trainees will be assessed and receive a Caribbean Vocational Qualification Certification.

6) Where is the programme facilitated?
The Classes/Training component of the programme will be conducted at Trinidad Tower Crane Services Ltd. Facility in Penal.

7) Who provides the training?
The training provider for HOIST is Trinidad Tower Cranes Services Limited.

8) How do I apply?
Persons can apply by visiting the MYDNS website- https://www.mydns.gov.tt
When applying the following documents must be submitted:
• A copy of your electronic Birth Certificate
• A copy of your National Identification Card or Driver’s Permit
• A Certificate of Character (receipts are acceptable in the interim)
• Academic Certificates (if available)
• Banking Information (Bank Statement with the name and account number) (Optional)
• Letter of recommendation from an approved recommender (see list below)

9) How long is the programme?
The HOIST programme consists of (3) three training options:
• Option 1: Forklift, Boom Truck, Mobile Crane and Tower Crane Operations – (7) Seven months
• Option 2: Forklift and Boom Truck Operations – (3) Three months
• Option 3: Rigging and Banksman Training – (1) One week

10) When does the programme start?
The duration of the HOIST programme is May 27st to December 22nd 2024
• Option 1: Forklift, Boom Truck, Mobile Crane and Tower Crane Operations – May 27th to December 22nd 2024
• Option 2: Forklift and Boom Truck Operations – May 27th to August 22nd 2024
• Option 3: Rigging and Banksman Training – May 27th to June 3rd 2024

11) Is there a stipend attached?
Yes. The stipend is valued at $100.00/day (based on attendance and participation).

12) Is the programme full time or part time?
HOIST is a full time programme only.
The training will be conducted Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm
(not public holidays)

13) Who is an appropriate recommender?
The Recommender must not be an immediate relative of the applicant. The following categories of persons are eligible to be Recommenders:
• Ministers of Religion registered under the law to perform marriages.
• Managing Directors, Directors, and Managers of Banks and companies.
• Members of Parliament, Mayors/Chairmen/Councillors/Aldermen of Cities, Boroughs and Regional Corporations.
• Notaries Public or Justices of the Peace or Commissioners of Affidavits.
• Senior Public Servants (Range 35 and above).
• Police Officers (Corporal and above rank) (include Regimental Number).
• Fire Sub-Station Officers and above rank (include Regimental Number). Prison Officers II and above rank (include Regimental Number).
• Members of the Defence Force (Corporal/Leading Seaman and above rank)
• School Principals, Vice-Principals, Lecturers, Graduate Teachers (Teacher I and above)
Note – These letters of recommendation must verify that the applicant is either employed, self-employed (state the profession) or unemployed.
