Youth Agricultural Homestead Programme (YAHP)​

About YAHP

YAHP is an agricultural in-person training programme intended to equip young people with the skills to become successful 21st century agribusiness entrepreneurs.

Year 1 will offer comprehensive training in crop production and animal husbandry. On completion, successful trainees will gain access to land, technical and financial support, to prepare for the second year of training.

Year 2 will offer practical training on the land assigned to each trainee. On completion of year 2, successful trainees would move to become land lease holders and graduate as a new 21st century farmer.

YAHP Requirements:

The requirements of the YAHP are as follows:

  • Persons must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years
  • Persons must be citizens of Trinidad and Tobago
  • Persons must have a good certificate of character
  • Persons must have a passion and demonstrate an interest in agriculture
  • Persons must be willing to commit to a two-year training programme
  • Persons must be willing to operate sustainable homesteads on the lands allotted to contribute to national food security

Location for YAHP Training

Selected applicants will be required to enroll in a full-time programme with the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) Eastern Caribbean Institute of Agriculture and Forestry (ECIAF) campus at Centeno.

Eligibility

Young nationals of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) between the ages of 18 and 35 years with a passion for agriculture.

Registration Requirements

Applicants are encouraged to have the following documents for upload:

  • Birth Certificate
  • National Identification Card or Driver’s Permit
  • Certificate of Character (receipts are acceptable)
  • Academic Certificates (if available)
  • Vaccination Card (if available)
  • Letter of recommendation from an approved Recommender/person
  • Photos and/or Videos of Farming Projects (if available) Files must not exceed 4MB

OR

Approved Recommenders

The Recommender must not be an immediate relative of the applicant. The following categories of persons are eligible to be Recommenders:

  • Ministers of Religion registered under the law to perform marriages.
  • Managing Directors, Directors, and Managers of Banks and companies.
  • Members of Parliament, Mayors, Borough or County Councilors.
  • Notaries Public or Justices of the Peace or Commissioners of Affidavits.
  • Senior Public Servants (Range 35 and above).
  • Police Officers (Corporal and above rank) (Include Regimental Number).
  • Fire Sub-Station Officers and above rank (Include Regimental Number). Prison Officers II and above rank (Include Regimental Number).
  • Members of the Defence Force (Corporal/Leading Seaman and above rank)
  • School Principals, Vice-Principals, Lecturers, Graduate Teachers (Teacher I and above)
