Youth Minister Distributes Instruments off Appointment to the Friendly Societies Advisory Council

Reappointments and appointments were made to the Advisory Friendly Society Council (AFSC) by the Honourable Foster Cummings, Minister of Youth Development and National Service, today Friday October 06, 2023, at the Head Office of Ministry of Youth Development and National Service (MYDNS) in Port of Spain.

The Honourable Foster Cummings, Minister of Youth Development and National Service, in his address encouraged Mr. Michael Alonzo Seales, Chairman of the Friendly Societies Advisory Council and other members to be innovative and creative, advising them to, “Embrace technology and explore how Friendly Societies can differentiate their services to attract target audiences and re-structure and finesse their products and service offerings to be a more viable competitive option.”

Mr. Michael Alonzo Seales, Mrs. Chandra Mohammed, Mr. Imtiaz Ali, Mr. Mervyn Franklyn and Mr. Kareem Marcelle were reappointed as Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Members of the AFSC respectively, while Mr. Leon Dennis, Mrs. Diane Baldeo-Chadeesingh, Ms. Raemona Braithwaite and Mrs. Aaliyah D’Hereaux-Collette were newly appointed.

The Council is charged with the responsibility of promoting and facilitating the expansion and development of Friendly and Building Societies amongst young persons throughout Trinidad and Tobago.

The Office of the Registrar of Friendly Societies and Building Societies is responsible for the supervision and regulation of the operations of Societies registered under the Friendly Societies Act Chap. 32:50 and Building Societies Act Chap. 33:04 respectively. The Friendly Societies Division is also responsible for the management and execution of projects and programmes for the Friendly Societies Division and the Friendly Societies Movement.

Mr. Farook Hosein – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development and National Service and Ms. Savitri Balkaran – Deputy Permanent Secretary, MYDNS were also present at the event.

The Ministry of Youth Development and National Service remains committed to bringing all stakeholders together to promote youth development and encouraging civic-minded citizens to contribute to National Service across Trinidad and Tobago.
