Youth Delegation Pays Courtesy Visit to Minister Cummings Ahead of S.T.E.A.M. Summer Camp

A group of twenty (20) students between 14 and 18 years paid a courtesy visit to Minister of Youth Development and National Service, the Honourable Foster Cummings, on Tuesday 11th July, 2023, at the Head Office of the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service in St. Clair, Port of Spain.

During the meeting, the Project Coordinator for the UNESCO Centre of Peace informed the Minister that the students were selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago at UNESCO Centre for Peace International Model United Nations (IMUN)/S.T.E.A.M. Summer Camp in the United States of America from July 16 to July 29, 2023.

Savio Yearwood, a member of the delegation, thanked Minister Cummings for accommodating their request to meet. Yearwood stated, “Through Social Media, we have had the privilege of witnessing your tireless work in shaping the future of our nation. Your commitment to empowering youth has left an impression on us. As we embark on this journey to the UNESCO IMUN/STEM Summer Camp, we are grateful for your blessing. This camp will provide us with a platform to enhance our knowledge, skills, and global perspective.”

The Honourable Minister indicated, “At the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service, we design and implement programmes to create entrepreneurs and innovators. We see these programmes as an investment because this country depends you. At this Camp, you have the opportunity to form friendships and bonds that will last a lifetime.”

The UNESCO Centre for Peace International Model United Nations/S.T.E.A.M. Summer Camp aims to bring together students from around the world who are interested in building a better future. The students will have the opportunity to engage in various programmes, such as robotics, visual arts, science, and technology involving biological and chemical science. Furthermore, students will participate in a simulation of the United Nations session, where they will discuss major challenges facing the world today.

Also present at the courtesy visit were the Executive Director of UNESCO Centre for Peace, Mr. Guy Djoken; Regional Project Coordinator for UNESCO Centre for Peace, Ms. Melissa Figueroa; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service, Mr Farook Hosein and Youth Officer II, Ms. Annalicia Barratt.
