Caravan Offers Carenage Youth Opportunities in Career, Education and Entrepreneurship

The Ministry of Youth Development and National Service’s Youth Career and Education Caravan (YCEC) rolled into Carenage on Saturday 1st April, 2023. From 10:00 a.m. young people from Carenage and environs flocked to the Carenage Recreation Grounds at took place at Haig Street to learn about career, education and entrepreneurship opportunities. Attractions at the 2nd YCEC included games, giveaways, quick sign-ups for library cards, even free haircuts.

The Youth Career and Education Caravan showcased youth-focused opportunities and resources from Ministries, State Agencies and the Private Sector that advance the personal and professional development of young people. On Saturday, a mobile caravan traversed through communities including Diego Martin, L’Anse Mitan and Carenage encouraging persons to visit the career fair and take full advantage of the opportunities being offered to young persons. The YCEC also hosted an entrepreneurship village proudly supported by the National Entrepreneurship Development Company Limited (NEDCO) – an agency of the MYDNS.

Minister of Youth Development and National Service – the Honourable Foster Cummings; Councillor for Chaguaramas/Carenage/Point Cumana – Ms. Akeliah Glasgow; Permanent Secretary, MYDNS – Mr. Farook Hosein; Director of the Youth Affairs Division, MYDNS – Mr. Sean Ramrattan and Registrar of Friendly Societies – Mr. Michael Seales – were also present on the day.

The Ministry of Youth Development and National Service was well-represented with a number of booths dedicated to their programmes including the Civilian Conservation Corps; Co-operative Development Division; Youth Agricultural Homestead Programme (YAHP), Youth Agricultural Shade House Programme among others. Partner Ministries and agencies included: Ministry of Sport and Community Development; Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries; On-the-Job Training Programme; and the National Library and Information System Authority.

The Caravan ended with a celebrity football match where Carenage F.C. walked away victorious with a 4-0 score after they took on the Vikings F.C.

The Youth Career and Education will continue between April and June, 2023, in various communities from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
