$300,000 in Prize Money for National Talent Search Winners

Vocalist, Aaliyah Campbell, emerged the winner of the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service (MYDNS) Youth on Stage-National Youth Festival and Talent Search (YoS) on Saturday 24th August, 2024. The Youth on Stage Competition, brought the curtains down on the MYDNS’s 2024 Youth Week Activities, at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA).

Overwhelmed with emotions, 22 year-old Campbell stooped to the ground, when the results were announced. Herwinningperformancebegan with technical difficulties however; she managed to maintain her confidence and wowed the judges and the audience with her stage presence and delivery of her Broadway performance of Don’t Rain on My Parade.

Campbell thanked the MYDNS for the opportunity and credited the mentorship and coaching offered through the Ministry’s AMPLIFY Training Programme, for developing her talent and confidence.

The Honorable Foster Cummings, Minister of Youth Development and National Service, who congratulated Campbell on a remarkable performance, also highlighted the importance of ensuring that Campbell, along with the other nine finalists, receive the necessary support as they continue their journeys in the performing arts and entertainment industry.

Vocalist Jaevan Harrington, 11 years old, placed second and the AfroKingdom Dance Duo, 26-year old Antonio St. Vincent and 12-year old Sabri Seepersad, placed third.

The 10 finalists were adjudicated by: International Entertainer Vaughnette Bigford; Shiv Shakti Dance Group Founder Michael Salickram; and Cultural Programme Coordinator Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, Kimmy Stoute Robinson, who was also the Chief Adjudicator.

The YOS Initiative of the MYDNS aims to provide an opportunity for aspiring young talents with a platform to display and develop their talents in the performing arts and entertainment industry. The Programme was launched in March 2024, with 11 auditions conducted across Trinidad; and 62 performers advancing to the quarterfinal leg in May 2024.

At each stage of the talent search, participants received guidance, resources, and industry insights, helping them navigate the challenges of starting a career in the creative and cultural sectors.

The Ministry of Youth Development and National Service remains committed to bringing all stakeholders together to promote youth development and encourages civic-minded citizens to contribute to National Service across Trinidad and Tobago.
